Profile of Alan Sellar
The First-born Grandchild of Alan and Alexanderina Morrison, Allan Sellar was born in 1924 in Dufftown, Moray, Scotland. He was the first of 3 children to parents John and Mary Bella Sellar (nee Mary Bella Morrison). By the outbreak of World War II, the Sellar family resided in Beauly where Alan was undergoing his primary and secondary education for most of it. |

Alan joined the Air Training Corps in preparation for enlistment into the RAF as aircrew, which he did as he became of eligible age towards the end of the war, followed by post-War National Service. |
|
After National Service, Alan became a self-employed mobile fruit and vegetable salesman intially; however, recognising an entrepeneurial marketing opportunity to introduce health foods to the Highlands, he established his own shop, which still operates today in Inverness as The Health Shop run by one of his sons and Daughters-in-Law. |

Later, Alan entered local politics as an Inverness town councillor before his election to Provost (Mayor) of Inverness in 1980; he served in that esteemed capacity over 2 periods spanning nearly 20 years from: 1980-1992 and 1996-1999. A position which held numerous diplomatic, civic and local responsibilities, involving much overseas travel, Provost Sellar was instrumental in expanding tourism, commerce and trade to Inverness and the surrounding Highland region. Moreover, as part of his civic duties, he hosted numerous distinguished dignitaries and VIPs. Most notably, several members of the Royal Family. |

Since 1999, Alan has enjoyed his well-earned retirement and still keeps active by practicing his golf 3 times a week and supporting his beloved Inverness Caledonian Thistle Football Club. Married to Brenda since 1955, they have 4 children and 8 Grandchildren. |
