Introduction
Welcome to the Knox-MacPherson 2012 Family Reunion Website; my name is Peter Grant. Through my maternal Grandparents, whilst they were alive, I became aware of my MacPherson lineage from my Grandmother's maternal background and the link to the Knox Family who emigrated in 1912. My Great Grandmother, Alexanderina Morrison (nee MacPherson), was the third of 12 MacPherson children born of Hugh MacPherson and his Wife Mary (nee Ross). Their eldest Child, Elsie, married George Knox in 1896 and, after many residential abodes in the Highlands and 6 daughters later, emigrated to Canada in 1912. The last surviving Knox daughter, fondly known as 'Auntie' Clare, died in 2003 aged 100. Up until that time, the Knox descendants all held reunions over in Canada and the US involving all the original Knox daughters, initially, then their subsequent generations. However, even after her death, these reunions have still carried on thanks to the drive of the Knox Grandchildren who have retained their roots and the meaning of family from the 'Old Country' Even though these reunions were primarily for the Knox's to get together, the invite has always been warmly opened to the other MacPherson descendants back home if they were in the vicinity. I have been to 4 of them Back in 1989, a small contingent of Knox descendants accompanied a then 87 years young Auntie Clare back to Scotland to re-visit their roots. They spent a day in the company of my Grandparents who showed them as much as was possible of the sites of Family history significance. Since then, given the advances such as the internet and the amount of archive family historic material that can be obtained more-easily, it became possible to host a more comprehensive reunion itinerary to take place just over 100 years since the Knox Family emigrated. While primarily a homecoming tour, it was also a rare opportunity for all related descendants to meet-Especially on Day One! |
