Although our primary aim is to study the life and times of Richard III, we also have our lighter side! In true Ricardian fashion we enjoy our 'jaunts' these are usually to events or places of interest in our locality and typically include a meal of some sort!!

In addition to our trips we celebrate our Foundation Date each year with a special meal held as near to February 2nd as possible.

 Our visits in 2013 included the Chester Mystery Plays in July, a visit to Bosworth in August and a guided tour around Lichfield including the Cathedral library - a special treat!

 Our trips in 2014 included a day visit to York in June and a tour of Upton Cresset manor in August. In July we  met up with other members of the Society on the annual summer trip - this year at Haughmond Abbey in Shropshire.

Our planned trips for 2015 met with disaster at every turn! Accidents and illness prevented us  from visiting several interesting South Staffordshire churches and to postpone our September trip. Undaunted, we will  try again in 2016. So the only outing we managed as Goup was our July visit to Ludlow. However, to make up  in part for our disappointments some of us visited the Derbyshire Well Dressings, the Stanley tombs at Elford and the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance.

2016 has proved a happier year for us regarding our summer visits. Some of the Group attended a performance of Othello held at Stafford castle, it was greatly enjoyed by all.  Our August trip was the Mucklestone church in Staffordshire. Legend has it that Margaret of Anjou watched the nearby battle of Blore Heath from the church tower before fleeing in the face of a Yorkist victory.

Our meetings in early 2017 were cancelled because of illness but we all managed a  couple of interesting trips as a Group  during the summer  In July some of us visited Chester Cathderal library for a talk on the Dead Sea Scrolls by Prof George Brookes which proved quite absorbing, the day was completed by our usual lunch!  August saw us in Tutbury joining up with some of the members of the South Staffordshire Group to visit Tutbury Priory where we were given an interesting talk on its history. After the obligatory lunch, we took a stroll up the hill to the castle.

2018 started  sadly for us with the loss of our Chairman, Neville Sibery who was so instrumental in our setting up the Group.

The main visit of the summer was a joint trip with the South Staffordshire Group to Sinai House near Burton on Trent. It was an interesting visit as the house is being lovingly restored by its present occupants.  In July we visited once again the Chester Mystery Play which although enjoyable had  a totally different feel too the previous one in 2013. Later in the year Penny and Deidre visited the annual performance of  the medieval  Abbot's Bromley Horn Dance which was greatly enjoyed.

Our Main visit in 2019 was to Sandon Estate church on one of its rare  public open days. we had an opportunity to view the monument to the antiquarian Sampson Erdeswicke. In September we had our annual trip to view the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance.

We were unable to have any visits during the summers of 2020 and 2021  due to  Covid restrictions .

We made up for lost time in 2022. In June we visited the Chester Midsummer - Watch Giants Parade, followed in August by a visit to Blithfield Hall in Staffordshire, the ancestral  home of the Bagot family. September was bussy with our annual trip to the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance and a 'research' visit to Norbury church in Derbyshire.
