Keiss site

Some photographs taken by Morris' neighbour Tony shortly before the Annual General Meeting 2021.  They show that whilst there is a very sound building and plenty of space, quite a lot of work needs to be done to create a micro-abattoir in what was formerly a very large plant.

Arriving at the site - it's huge!

Rear view - entrance to lairage at the forefront:

There is quite a bit of tidying up to be done - this is the entrance to the amenity block in the old bus depot:

Inside the lairage - we will only be using a fraction of this:

This is the entrance to the smalls stun pen:

This is the cattle stun box inside the slaughterhall - we are lucky this is still in place:

The rest of the slaughterhall - very large for our purposes, so we are looking at installing two reception chillers WITHIN the slaughterhall to keep our footprint down:

This is one of the three enormous existing chillers (the rails and supporting steelwork were stripped out ten years ago).  We will be sub-dividing this one to create a maturing chill and a finished goods chill.  The butchery will be established in another of these:

The challenge is to make as much use as possible of what is already present, whilst minimising the footprint to keep the business rates as low as possible.

Finally - some questions were asked at the AGM about the water borehole and reed bed treatment plant.  This is the water borehole shed.  We had both units surveyed at the beginning of the year and although they need work, there is not thought to be any insuperable difficulty.
