THE GROUP and the TEAM

The Founder Members of the North Coast Abattoir Group are:

Morris Coghill

Morris is from a Caithness farming family and has a small Highland Cattle Fold - Achreamie Fold - plus a flock of Shetland Sheep. Having horned native breed cattle himself, he has been aware of the need for a local slaughterhouse in the North for many years, having had to travel as far as Mull for private slaughter.

Essie Coghill

Also from a Caithness farming family, Essie is also acutely aware of the need for accessible local slaughter services for those with small numbers and rare breeds.  Essie is particularly interested in the opportunities local slaughter offers - she has a home-cured Highland cattle skin rug in her conservatory, has cured Shetland sheep skins and done a little felting.

The Founder Members form the Committee, who will steer the business case phase of the project.  Those contracted to work on the business case include:

Chloe Randall

Chloe has a background in administrative management, but for the last twenty years or so has been involved with agriculture and the meat industry.  Working with the late, great Jack Shewring (grandfather of the British abattoir), Chloe has been involved with many small to medium projects and clients, and passionately believes that the future for British food lies in local processing.

Iain Anderson

Iain has 40 years experience running butchery businesses, with 25 of those years spent running Island-based micro abattoirs and butchery (on a self employed basis).  Along the way he has gained valuable experience of how to keep these businesses functioning profitably and efficiently, through problem-solving and adapting systems as necessary.
