Aldi on top

When is Aldi coming to Neath?

Aldi has been declared the UK's lowest priced supermarket in a new comparison survey.

According to independent analysis by The Grocer, the German chain surpassed its main rivals including Tesco, Asda, Morrisons and Sainsbury's to scoop the title in the trade magazine's latest weekly rankings.

It comes after the budget chain was named as as Grocer of the Year by the same title earlier in 2018, knocking Tesco off the top spot.

Aldi has long reigned popular with bargain-hunting shoppers and the latest news confirms that they're saving the most on their everyday essentials, up to a whopping £9.79 on their baskets.

Our comment:

A planning application for an Aldi store near Neath Abbey was turned down by NPT Council sometime ago.   Road congestion was thought to be the reason. Can yuo suggest a site for Aldi in Neath?

Wales Online reports:

Supermarket giant Aldi has officially opened a new £59.5m distribution centre on the outskirts of Cardiff in an investment that has created 422 new jobs.

The German-owned retailer is planning an expansion of its network of supermarkets in south Wales.

It wants to create a further 400 new jobs over the next five years.

The expansion in Wales is part of Aldi's drive to have 1,000 stores in the UK by 2022.

Aldi currently has 42 stores in Wales, employing around 1,250.

The exact number of new stores that will open over the next five years will be confirmed shortly.
