It costs money to phone the Police

A reader says she is annoyed to be charged for a call to the police on 101 about a community matter when she is already paying them a large sum of money with her council tax payments.

The reader says she has a package plan with her phone company that allows her to make all calls at no charge - but a call to the police 101 is an exception.

It is the principle more than the cost which was 15p in this case.

It is no incentive to help the police when the caller has to pay telephone costs.   Surely this is matter that should be discussed in parliament, especially in view of the crime figures mentioned on the media.
