Britain's greatest peacetime explosion

It was 44 years ago today (1st June 1974) that the Flixborough chemical works and adjacent village blew up with a tremedous vapour explosion.   Its a grim reminder that any man made plant can go wrong.   This is why we must give serious thought to the jerry built high pressure South Wales Pipe Line and the pressure reducing plant at Cilfrew.
