British Inventions

Have faith in our ability to succeed without the crutch of the EU

A reader writes about the great British inventiveness which should make us all proud of our country and more than capable of being independent of the EU.

It wasn't until we checked on British inventions that we realised what we have done in the past.

Throughout history, the British have been responsible for many great inventions and are still commonly acknowledged to be among the best in the world when it comes to inventing. Over the past 50 years, according to Japanese research, more than 40 per cent of discoveries taken up on a worldwide basis originated in the United Kingdom.

Many of these British inventions have had an enormous impact on the world. For example, imagine how different life would be today if Michael Faraday had not built the first simple electrical generator or if James Watt had not developed the steam engine?  Source: Historic UK.

Over the years our readers' have come up with some brilliant ideas - it is not just inventions but the ability to think outside the box and come up with something that no-one else has thought of.

Often it is the determination to succeed that matters and we should keep this in mind when it comes to Brexit.
