New councillor attends first surgery

New Councillor attends first surgery at Owain Glyndwr Community Centre

Chris Williams, the newly elected Plaid Cymru NPT Councillor for South Bryncoch, today attended his first surgery at the Owain Glyndwr Community Centre located at the top of Dwr y Felin Road.   It takes place at 10am on the first Saturday of every month.  He said he was most proud at the way Cllr Janice Dudley (his ward colleague) spoke last week at Port Talbot Civic Centre when she became the second Plaid Cymru Mayor for the County Borough.

Cllr Williams was armed with his Apple iPad as supplied by the Council to all councillors.   The built in Wi-Fi made up for the fact that all five Blaenhonddan community centres have not got broadband - and no landline telephone, a potential problem in the event of an emergency.

No broadband means that hiring the centres to certain groups is not possible when Internet access is required.

Cllr Williams looked at the Bryncoch South and Dwr y Felin websites and became aware of the content, including the traffic lights on the main road junction.

No Post Office letter collection box at the Dwr y Felin Tesco Express store, where he works, was also discussed as was the requested short cut pathway to the store from Fernlea Park.

Cllr Williams acknowleges the development of the Internet and how it can help residents.   Having broadband in community centres could certainly help in the future, making the hiring of centres more attractive.
