Is Neath Port Talbot phasing out its Mayor?

We can only go by the Neath Port Talbot Council webite, which now seems the main source of information from the administration side of the council.

Going by the lack of information about the Mayor and his/hers engagements, there is an impression that the historial office of Mayor is being phased out.

Indeed, there is more information available from unofficial sources than what there is from the council website.

On top of this, there has been suggestions from a Plaid Cymru councillor that the office of Mayor should be suspended during the current financial situation.   Ironically, the new Mayor for 2017/2018 is a member of Plaid Cymru.

The office of Mayor is quite a perk for those holding the office and anyone in line for this office is hardly likely to oppose it.   The cost of running the office of Mayor is quite considerable and it is understandable how thought is being given to it.
