Street parking charges are being considered

Coming - charges for on-street car parking

An unconfirmed report from an inside source states that NPT Council are considering charges of up to £50 per year for on-street parking for residents who have garages and do not use them.

Following concern over congestion on our streets, especially at night, thought is being given to reducing the number of cars on roads and streets with residences having back lane entrances.

Exemption certificates will be issued to doctors, disabled, and those working for essential services.

Shown below is a typical area of Neath with garages in the back lane.  The Google photograph was taken in the day time when most people were working.  At night there are almost no spaces making it difficult to pass on-coming traffic.   The situation makes it almost impossible for emergency vehicles to travel up the street.

The alleged parking charges are likely to take place after the May council elections.  It will provide the council with additional income for traffic management and street repairs.

Planning regulations state that new build houses must have off the road parking for two cars.
