+ Odd road markings at Pen-y-wern

Reader asks:

"Can anyone shed a light as to what these  mysterious road marking's are on Bryncoch road from Pen y Wern roundabout?
is the centre line for dog walkers?"

Now we know the answer:

As surmised, the above photo shows the start of a three lane layout to aid motorists to turn right at the various junctions on Pen y wern hill.   It is something The Neath Ferret asked for about three years ago following a near accident.

All that remains is clear sign posting to Caewern and the Post Office (bearing in mind that it also serves Cadoxton) and better lighting at the junction, especially with the long winter evenings coming up.
