Snobbery - can you help it?

Snobbery - what our readers think

Snobbery - does it depend on the way you were brought up and where you were born?

Here's an extract from Wikipedia:

Accident of birth is a phrase pointing out that no one has any control of, or responsibility for, the circumstances of their birth or parentage. With a modern scientific understanding of genetics, one can reasonably call any human being's entire genome an accident of birth. The place of birth of a baby has an effect in immigration lawof many nations, so that an "accidental" birth in an airport lounge may entitle a person to a passport in later life.

More broadly, gender, family circumstances, cultural background, access to education, inheritance rights, are all examples of accidents of birth. Individual responsibility, from the age of majority certainly, is supposed to cut across all these matters.

This is how Wikipedia defines a SNOB:

A snob is a human who believes there is a correlation between social status and human worth. The term also refers to a person who believes that some people are inherently inferior to him or her for any one of a variety of reasons, including real or supposed intellect, wealth, education, ancestry, power, physical strength, class, taste, beauty, nationality, fame, extreme success of a family member or friend, etc.
Both definitions are used as a pejorative.
