They didn't beat the world record, but there was no suppressing the Christmas spirit.

Hundreds of people turned out to the centre of Neath dressed as festive elves, to take part in a bid to reach the record for the most people dressed in the seasonal costume gathered together.

The event was organised by the Neath Community Christmas group, which has reformed to fundraise for festive lights for the town, and to hold the festive elves gathering, which took place at Victoria Gardens.

And despite not making the record books, the event was hailed a success
