Recycle +

Recycle +

Mike Davies writes about a new recycle scheme for NPT

We are introducing a new and improved recycling service to some parts of Neath Port Talbot, with the rollout starting in July 2014.

   What is it?
   How does Recycle+ work?
   Why is the service changing?
What areas will have the Recycle+ service?
When will the Recycle+ service start?

What is it?

Recycle+ is our improved recycling collection service, making it easier for households to recycle more materials at the kerbside, more often.

The households on the new service will receive the following:

A white 180 litre reusable bag, which will hold plastics, card, cardboard, cartons, foil, tins, cans and aerosols.
A black box with a lid for paper and textiles.
A black box without a lid for mixed glass only.
A small white reusable bag for household batteries.

Food waste and garden waste will continue to be collected in the same manner.

The explanation leaflet for Recycle+ and the Recycling Guide are available to download at the bottom of this page.
How does Recycle+ work?

All recycling (including plastics) will be collected weekly with the exception of garden waste, which will change to a collection every other week in line with refuse collections.

(Life gets more complicated when one gets older lol)
You can see our Recycling Guide to see what goes in each container, ordownload the Guide at the bottom of this page.
Why is the service changing?

The introduction of Recycle+ is part of our drive to increase recycling in Neath Port Talbot. Throwing rubbish away in landfill is not only expensive; it is bad for our local environment too.

We hope the new service will encourage people to recycle even more, as we have made it easier to use and are offering collection of a wider range of materials from the kerbside.

The Welsh Government has set out a requirement for all Councils in Wales to increase their recycling rate year on year, with a 58% recycling rate having to be achieved by 2016 and 64% by 2019/20. Strict fines will be imposed on local authorities if the targets are missed.
What areas will have the Recycle+ service?

The rollout of Recycle+ will take place across the whole of Neath Port Talbot, but will not cover every street to begin with.

Residents will be informed that they are switching to the new service by letter when their new equipment is delivered. There will be roadshows held in a range of areas when the new service starts.
When will the Recycle+ service start?

The first phase of the rollout will take place over July and August 2014.

More information about the Recycle+ service can be found on the Council’s website,www.npt.gov.uk/recycle
