Reader writes and compares EU with Turkey as far as jobs are concerned for non-nationals
Some time ago it was reported on this website that a British person working in Turkey for a UK company had to go to a Turkish police station with a bank statement to prove that there was at least £3,000 in the account.
Reader Frank Little now writes in and refers to some EU rules - see link:

If link is not active, copy and paste on Google (or other). Perhaps our more interested readers would like to compare and comment on our Readers' Letters page - especially in view of immigation issues previously discussed.
Our question: Are British police working closely with tihe immigration authorities (as they do in Turkey and other countries) to check on work permits and when they expire? Is there a lack of control and supervision in the UK?
The question is asked because it appears difficult to access some British police stations because of closures and cutbacks - including duty officers at front duty desks.
STaN this week
In this week's weekend column our Stan will be looking at immigration figures in a thought provoking manner - here's an extract:
"The UK has the fastest growing population in Europe, heavily influenced by the effects of immigration and a baby boom helped along by the fact that most migrants are of a family raising age."
Here in Wales we are not seeing or feeling the full effects of immigration - you have to read Stan's column, not based on opinion but on facts and figures from official sources, to appreciate the actual situation. Figures that no-one can argue with. STaN 15 is due out this weekend.
