Reader challenges councillors

Give up your allowance to keep libraries open!

A reader (letters page) challenges councillors who don't rely on their council allowance for a living (many have income from other sources) to give them up to keep public libraries open.

The reader quotes: "Under the Public Libraries and Museums Act 1964 councils have a legal duty to provide a "comprehensive and efficient" library service."

The reader gives facts and figures to support the challenge and would like views of other readers who may now consider that certain councillors are being put on the spot.
