What is happening to Labour in Neath?

Reader asks: What is happening to the Labour vote in Neath?

A letter on our Readers' Letters page suggests that there is something to concern the Labour Party here in Neath.

Peter Hain's zenith was 1997 when of course Labour had their famous victory. The turnout in Neath was 74.3%,  41,243 votes were cast and Labour got 30,324 of them.

Their percentage share of the vote has slipped in every General Election since, and their majority too has fallen in every election to the extent that in 2010 we get the following: 

  

The readers adds: "But clearly something drastic has been happening to the Labour vote. Is it the Party, the individual or both?"
