Fewer Christmas cards by post

Record low posting of Christmas cards forecast this year+

The Post Office can blame themselves.   Not only is the high cost of a postage stamp, it is the location of post collection boxes combined with fewer local Post Offices.

Since 1993 there have been several housing developments in Neath and not one new mail collection box has been added. In fact no new collection boxes have been installed in Neath for the past 50 years.  The one at Caewern is at the bottom of a hill and the Royal Mail have objected to a mail collection box being installed inside the three year old Tesco Express store near a junior primary school.   Ironically the store sells Christmas cards but there is no-where to post them.   It simply does not make sense!

This community website have long advocated that mail collection boxes should be sited at locations where people visit most.   We have written to the Post Office Chief Executive and the matter has even gone to the Postal Review Panel - what a waste of time!   It adds up to the fact that the Royal Mail is NOT interested in the customers they serve.  Maybe one day they will have a competitor who will care for the service it gives - the sooner, the better as far as we are concerned.

+ The Royal Mail Chief Executive's secretary has acknowledged our report.
