Eye sore in Neath Town Centre - Queen Street Back Road
There was a time when Queen's Street Back Road had a reasonably look about it - now it is a horrible mess. It is Neath's town centre eye sore - the main link between the railway station and the bus station, plus it being the taxi route from Windsor Road.
There MAY be a long term plan to intergrate Neath's transport services and put the bus station near the railway station when the Post Office is demolished - but something should be done now, even only if it is giant advertising boards to hide what is possible of the eye sore. We must consider the impact this area has on visitors. It is giving our town and council a very bad name.
Give an incentative to a bill hoarding company - then later get some revenue from the venture. The council should use its initiative and put some pride into the area
Below we show an old photograph of one of the many businesses that used to be on this road - known to many as Queen Street Back Lane. Over the next few weeks we hope to show you more shots of the past.
Our reporter writes: This was taken in Queen Street back road in the 1960's when there were many small business there. "Rodneys" the joiners were next door and Snows the builders had premises further up on the opposite side. The above premises backed on to "Neath Goldsmiths" jewellery shop in Queen Street,
The business used to be in cabinet making, French polishing and flooring, employing several fitters in those days. In the early 1960's this area of Neath was extremely busy with many thriving businesses - so different to today.
Many think that attention is required here BEFORE a start is made elsewhere on the town's development plan.
