Neath Heritage Matters

Pressure builds up for heritage scene in Neath

Facebook users have made many comments on the Neath Development Plan and how it should be linked to the heritage of Neath.   These comments should be taken on board by the planners, in view of Facebook's activity on such matters.

Comments on Facebook suggest that the new Neath town development should revolve around the heritage of Neath which goes back many centuries - more so than any other town in Wales.

The Romans, who built many of our roads, were wise enough to see the potential of Neath and built a fort there during their occupation of the country.

Neath, if developed along the right lines, can be a focal town in South Wales - a gem of the Neath Port Talbot administration.

Jason Reynolds, heritage researcher, has offered his services free of charge to the planners along with local historians Robert King and Keith Reed (who has three degrees in history). All live within the town, unlike some of the planners.

Never before has a council and its planning department had such interest and enthusiasm from such dedicated residents.   The ball is now in the councils court and it is up to them to respond with a spark of interest in making Neath different to any other town centre in the UK.
