A NEW campaign to reduce chewing gum litter in Neath Port Talbot has been launched today.

Neath Port Talbot Council and Swansea Business Improvement District (Bid) are aiming to lower littered gum in the region by partnering with the Chewing Gum Action Group with the Bin It Your Way campaign.

The campaign, now in its eighth year, sees industry working with councils and Bids to develop local plans to reduce gum litter.

The new advertising campaign encourages gum chewers to dispose of gum litter responsibly or face a fine of up to £80.

Leader at Neath Port Talbot Council Ali Thomas said chewing gum litter was a real nuisance, adding: "We want the residents of Neath and Port Talbot to be proud of where they live which is why we have partnered with the Chewing Gum Action Group to raise awareness and proactively tackle this problem."

So once again Neath Port Talbot are going to add more paper to the already filthy streets of Neath in an advertising campaign to get people to dispose of their chewing gum instead of cleaning up what is already blackening the streets.

Once again people will sit on their seats in offices and perform an ' advertising campaign' when what is needed is physical activity to clean up the mess.

The litter laws have been in force for a long time but they are not implemented. If you do not use the stick then the donkey knows this and will carry on regardless. Whispering in the donkeys ear does no good at all.

So it seems the leader of Neath Port Talbot does take notice of this site and the constant complaints here and in other publications of the state of the streets of Neath but his only course of action seems to be to get someone else, also sitting in an office, to talk about the problem and try and whisper in the ears of the donkeys instead of doing something positive, like physically cleaning up the mess.
