Council said to be taking on more supervisors

A council mole tells us that there are advertised positions for more supervisors on NPT CBC while another report says that the labour force is being reduced.    One reader (letters page) suggests that the council is getting ready for the 'Work for Benefit' scheme mentioned by the government - on the basis that someone has to supervise the 'workers'.

The best way to get results from someone is to give them responsibility - a basic management fact.   Why not make all the workers supervisors - make them responsible and supervise their own patch.   It would make sense to have some competition on who is getting the best results.

This is not so daft as it may sound - a pride in doing a job is important.   Workers like to have their efforts noticed - and not be taken for granted.     A new approach to the council workforce is called for.   Workers want bosses they respect - just like footballers having good managers.   Good managers get results.  So let's look forward in a change in attitude and the results that go with it.
