Alert for party event +

Party Time Notice - ALERT!  +

When school children are given leaflets about a party at short notice - with no contact details about the organisers, there is cause for concern.

A reader writes: "Leaflets were distributed to the children in a primary school the leaflet holds no contact number or even name of the person or persons holding the event. Also the leaflet was distributed at close of School yesterday - Friday and the event is this Sunday - not leaving any time for anyone to check if all is above board as the school is then closed until after the event has taken place."

The concern is greater when such an event is scheduled to take place on our door step - Cilfrew.

Although the clerk of the council is aware of the event scheduled to take place on Sunday, 22nd September at 3:30pm, and liability insurance has been paid for the use of the community centre, the question arises on these events taking place at short notice with no details of the organisers being available on leaflets.

Due to the time factor, it is not established if the school was aware of these notices being given out.

Are there guidelines for events such these?   We would certainly like to know.

+  Editoral Note....   A reader points out on our Readers' Letters page that there should be some control over leaflets being handed to children as they leave school at the end of a day.   As mentioned, it could escalate to advertising and even political canvassing - a great time saving way to get a message home to parents - better than walking around the streets putting leaflets through letter boxes.    Using children this way must not be allowed.
We would welcome someone in authority telling us that this is going to be investigated,  On top of this is the litter aspect when children just chuck the leaflets away.
