Public Libraries to close?

Public Libraries to close to save money?

The Neath Guardian website reports that NPT CBC is likely to close several public libraries in a cost saving exercise.   It is likely that these libraries will never reopen.

Included in the list is the library at Briton Ferry (pictured right), probably the oldest in the County Borough of Neath Port Talbot.

Consideration should be given for at least one of these buildings to be made into an art and craft centre.   Currently most of the art treasures owned by the council are locked away in storage where no-one can see them.

As one door closes another could open IF the council looked to the future and the interests of residents.   Such an art centre could possibly be more educational than a library?   Regarding running costs, volunteers, including the WVS, would be be pleased to be involved and could provide refreshments as an added attraction.

The report infers that some libraries will remain open - it just means travelling to get to them.

A full detailed report appears in the Neath Guardian website - see menu.
