Smaller bins for households?

Council want residents to have smaller refuse bins

Size does matter!

Although fortnightly refuse collections are being made, the NPT council want residents to have smaller refuse bins.   The thought behind it is that it would encourage more recyling.

In a fiery council meeting there was not total agreement on this matter - as can be seen from our Readers' Letters page.

Arguments were put forward about familes with babies and disposable napkins having storage problems - the same applies to families with incontinent adults.   It is thought that the use of black plastic bags would increase and make the problem worse.  Plastic bags are likely to to get torn creating spillages on pavements and roads - thus creating a health and safety hazard.

One Independent Councillor was annoyed with the chaiman of the meeting, claiming that that his views were not dealt with as they should have been and left the meeting is disgust - see Readers' Letters and an extract from the local paper.

This councillor, and others, are invited to express their views on this website as we think that readers should known their opinions.    We feel that is is not right to have all councillors tarred with the same brush when some are standing up to express opposition to a matter of such great importance.

Readers have their say - see our Readers Letters page.

What are the views of the bin men?   How do they feel about the propect of handling more black bags because bins are smaller?    After all, these are the men directly affected with any bin size change.   These workers should have their say.
