Reader sends in Pothole video

Videos sent in by readers

.... and a follow-up by a councillor who cares

It seems that a trend is being set with readers sending in short videos of what they think others should see.   Here is one such video.

What's it all about?  Here's a few words by a resident that the council should read:

Potholes main road Cadoxton Neath
Is this the worse road in the county? What a terrible state this borough is in. Cllr.Wingrave has been contacted about the appalling state of Main road Cadoxton since the beginning of the year, she has kindly kept the resident informed of the re-surfacing which, she said, will be taking place in April of 2013  - we are now coming into the Aug of 2013 and nothing has been done!
Cllr Wingrave  has been in touch with the powers to be  but at this moment in time to no avail - no doubt she is doing her best but is not getting anywhere.
The main road through Cadoxton village has to be the worst road in the county if not the country,  at least one resident  had to replace 2 front tyres. When driving through the village cars are dodging the potholes by going on the opposite side of the road into oncoming traffic.
There have two major schools in this area and residents are waiting for an accident to happen.
This road is used by bikers throughout the week and more so than ever on weekends, they tell us that cycling through Cadoxton is a nightmare and if they hit any of the potholes they will go over the handlebars.
This resurfacing should be a priority, we have the school holidays and the weather, so a perfect time for the road to be resurfaced NOT PATCH THE HOLES UP, BUT RESURFACED COMPLETELY the last time Cadoxton road was re- surfaced was well over 40 years ago.
The above video highlights the problem - those concerned are asked to take it very seriously.

Ed Note .... We are passing other videos onto the Neath i (eye) website who will feature them after they have been processed.

Note by our legal eagle.....  In the event of an accident or damage to a vehicle as a result of potholes, a council can be considered to blame on the grounds of negligence - and in the event of a death criminal negligence may be considered.
It is the responsiblity for councils to maintain roads so that they may be considered safe for road users.
There are several court cases on record which are considered as a precedence in the eyes of the law.   Residents are now taking advantage of the 'no win - no fee' offers for taking up take cases against councils who often settle out of court to reduce costs.

Now that this matter has been brought to the council's attention on this website it should focus thought on the legal issues, as highlighted above.

Claiming against the council for potholes

There is useful information on the Internet for claiming against the council for Potholes, including the following:-

Response from a councillor who cares...

A Cadoxton resident informs us that he has been corrected by Cllr Wingrave on the April date mentioned above.   It is therefore assumed that work on the Cadoxton Road is due to commence after that date in the new financial year.

The resident feels that he must mention, on a different matter, that Cllr Wingrave was a little dismayed to find that “The Neath Ferret” had omitted her name from the list of organisers on the recent Blaenhonddan Family Fun Day event, especially as she is actually the Chair of the Festival Committee.  When Cllr. Wingrave took her seat on the Community Council she says she was approached by other members to set up the committee and show them how to organise a Fun Day, as she had done this successfully for Coedffranc C.C. for the last 6 years.

The report on the Family Fun Day was printed as received from one of the organisers.   Cllr Wingrave says she was on holiday when the event took place, which may explain the omission, but as she says, most of the organising was done before the date of the Fun Day anyway.
