Fire Station to move?

Cimla Fire Station to move?

A review of Neath Port Tabot fire fighting services is likely to take place because of possible cut backs in the current financial climate.   One consideration is a new fire station on Baglan Moors to replace the one at Cimla and another at the rear of Commerical Road in Margam.   The latter being built there to cater for the possible needs of the nearby steelworks.

The original Neath Fire Station (pictured right) was in the centre of the town and there was some concern when a fire station was built on the top of Cimla hill, considering ice, snow and bad weather conditions.   The orginal one in Port Talbot was located in Station Road until the Abbey steel works was built in the early 1950's.

The proposed one at Baglan Moors would serve the whole of Neath Port Talbot, replacing the two existing fire stations.   The reports have yet to be confirmed by an official source.
