Report from PCSO Cerys Jones

A plea from someone who cares
..... for a friend in need

Following on from yesterday’s report on the Neath Guardian website, I have now secured a venue to raise funds for my friend and collegue PCSO Lian Gittus. Please see below for a brief history on Lian and her situation and also for details of the event.

Please feel free to advertise the event as much as possible and wherever you feel necessary.
Regards,
Cerys

Lian GITTUS (left) has been a PCSO based at Skewen Police Station for over 6years. She is currently on long-term sick leave due to having an extremely rare form of cancer, called Ewing’s Sarcoma, which is a tumour in her spine.

Due to the location of the tumour (within a vertebrae near her coccyx) is not possible to operate without causing a significant amount of damage, possibly leaving her paralysed, but most certainly causing a significant amount of immobility and also a colostomy bag for the rest of her life. Intense chemotherapy has not worked and although radiotherapy is an option it will not fully remove the tumour and the cancer has a high chance of returning. Therefore the only option left for Lian is to go to America and have Proton Beam Therapy. This will cost approx £140K and at the moment it does not look like there is any funding within the NHS to assist her.

Lian has suffered with this for the passed two years and is in extreme pain for much of the time. This has had a massive impact on not only her life but also on that of her husband, Jason and Chloe, their 11year old daughter.

An auction is being conducted in order to raise funds to assist Lian is getting to American and also paying for the much needed treatment.

The event will be held at 7pm on Friday 22nd February at The Towers Hotel, Jersey Marine. Tickets are to be purchased beforehand and will be £5 per head. There will be an auction (with some fantastic items on offer) a raffle, a buffet and a disco. For tickets and further information please contact PCSO Cerys JONES on 07584004658.

All proceeds will be going directly to Lian as The Towers has kindly agreed to allow us use of the function room free of charge and they are also paying for the buffet and DJ!

If anyone would like to make a cash or cheque donation please can it be send to: -
LIAN GITTUS, C/O SKEWEN POLICE STATION, NEW ROAD, SKEWEN, SA10 6HH

Cheques should be made payable to ‘LIAN GITTUS DONATION FUND’.

THANK YOU!!
