Phone scam warning

Councillor Janice Dudley has written to tell us of her personal experience with a phone scam:-

"There is a very big Fraud mobile phone hacking system going on in the area, beware as the messages seem very genuine.

A MESSAGE TO ME WAS FROM SPAIN, SAYING THAT MY FRIEND WAS MUGGED AND ALL HER PERSONAL EFFECTS WERE STOLEN, SHE WAS PLEADING FOR HELP.

I had the presence of mind to phone my friend at her home.  I found that she was not in Spain, and mine was not an isolated case, they have been asking
for 750 Euros from others. Who knows how many people have fallen in to
the trap?"

Ed Note.   There have also been similar email scams along these lines, which also state the their mobile phone has been stole together with all their money.  The message says that money is wanted in order to get back home.
