Hospital date brought forward

Hospital date brought forward to prevent demonstrations

We previously reported that the closure of the A&E unit at the Baglan Moors was to have taken place on 25th August.   However to forestall the expected demonstations the date was unexpectantly brought forward to the 22nd August.

NHS officials were very much aware of the comments previously made by Neath's MP - Peter Hain who forecast people revolting over the changes

The closure of the hospitals A&E unit is one of great concern as it is so close to the Margam Steel works - the biggest steel plant in Europe.

A major accident at the steelworks could see this saga being highlighted all over the world as a very short sighted policy.    As with all major accidents, time is of the essence in saving lives.    We hope that this matter will be the subject of a wise U-turn.

It seems the wisdom of our forefathers in building the former Aberavon hospital near the Port Talbot steel works has been totally ignored.    The Aberavon hospital was built by contributions by steelworkers - something that may have been overlooked when it was demolished for a housing site.
