Hospital staff concern over closure

Baglan Moors Hospital

Staff shocked and saddened by closure news

The A&E and medical admissions section of the Baglan Moors hospitals, which serves Neath Port Talbot and their adjoining valleys, will no longer be accepting medical admissions from 25th August, and will close down on 2nd September, the medical staff have been informed.

Doctors, nurses and cleaning staff will be moved to Morriston and Bridgend Hospitals.  Thoses who have worked together as a friendly team will be split up between the two hospitals because of the pending restructure.  They feel very sad at the thought of never seeing each other again, except, perhaps at Christmas reunions.

The space of the units will be taken by patients from Cimla hospital, from an alleged plan drawn by NHS Trust managers at Cardiff.   It is a scheme that we can report that the staff and doctors are not happy with.

As far as patients are concerned, all 999 cases will have further to travel - likely putting lives at risk.   This move is considered to be a backward move and we look forward to feedback from our readers.

This report is the result of a patient informing us of the situation as he found it - just after the staff had been informed of the closure date.

The above photo shows the A&E team in action just after they had the news of the pending closure.  The photo highlights the well equiped section of the hospital that is soon to go.     The news item (above) was published before the dates were actually known.

Readers comments, already received, can be see on our readers' letters page.

It has to be said, the cleanliness at the Baglan Moors hospital is one of excellence -   unfortunately this cannot be said about Morriston - our readers claim, based on reports earlier this year.
