Neath Misses Great Olympic Opportunity

On the day that Prime Minister David Cameron announced millions of pounds to be put into the Olympic scene to keep the momentum going for the next games in four years time, we claim that Neath has lost out with the demolishment of the Neath Empire, which could have been made into one of the finest gymnasiums in Wales.    This was confirmed by a group of gymnasts who viewed the interior of the building earlier this year - after planning permission was granted to demolish it for 12 flats.

Body Talk (Neath) who have just opened a new gymnasium and fitness centre in Davies Road, pictured left within the shadow of the Empire, also confirm that the Empire would have made an ideal gymnasium among its other uses.

Pictured above is the interior of the Empire after the Bingo tables had been removed - the space available makes very obvious that it would have made a fine gymnasium and worthy of the support mentioned from the government.   Alas, it is too late, an opportunity lost by NPT CBC.

Under the hall, in the former snooker area, there would have been space for a community centre and also a youth club - both much needed facilities for the town.
