Empire - Machines now inside building
The Empire Neath (built 1925) is being demolished because the council were not interested in its potential, despite the need in Neath for a community centre, a youth centre, an art centre, a museum and a gymnasium. The Empire could have catered for all these uses - and many more.
The Plaza Port Talbot (built 1939) remains in the hands of NPT CBC and is being considered for an art centre. Neath residents are asking if Port Talbot (with a smaller population) is being favoured by the council?
Is it true that the NPT Planning Department would like all leisure facilities OUTSIDE Neath?
PS .... An ex-council official has informed us that part of the Plaza Port Talbot is subject to flooding at high tides. The Empire Neath never had problems of this nature.
