Pavements are a disgrace in Neath

Council officials admit there is a problem - so who do we blame?

Weeds are growing out of pavements and it appears that nothing is being done about it.    A complaint to a councillor was met with a reply that it has been reported to those concerned,

Direct contact with the council's First Line number 01639 686868 resulted in a sympathetic official saying that the street where he lived was the worst he had ever seen it.   Council officials fairly admit that the town is in a sad state.

The more people that phone this number to complain of this weed problem - the better.

Weeds and their roots can cause damage to pavements and make additional expense for the council.    Visitors from other areas are disgusted with the way Neath sidewalks are looking - in fact, it is true to say that they are shocked with the look of Neath.   Queen Street, once the pride of the town in the days it had a Tesco store, is now a shambles.   We are not just saying it - you can see it all for yourself.

Councillors must stand up and speak up in council meetings - they must realise someone at the top is responsible.   Someone in authority must be brought to account.  A pride must be taken in the town - NOW, before it is too late.

Follow-up   In fairness we must report that the following day after a resident reported the state of the sidewalk outside his house, workmen appeared to deal with it.   This is a good response and highlights the  fact that complaining brings results.  However, there should be no need to complain in the first place.
Let's hope that the official who mentioned the bad state of pavements in his street will also get attention.
Further note --- Houses close by, within vision of the spot attended to, remain untouched.   It seems you have got to complain - or nothing gets done.
