Awards for achievements

Should Councillors and Citizens have awards for achievements?

A lively discussion is taking place on our Readers' Letters page about awards for achievements.  Supporting the idea of awards, a reader gives an example of what happens at Dyffryn Clydach where gardens, and community achievements merit awards which are made annually.

The question is: should awards be extended to councillors who go that one mile further with outstanding achievements?   Should civic awards be part of the Mayors annual inauguration?    A trophy or some other symbolistic award can be cherrished because it can be more valuable than anything money can buy.

Our new Mayor is from Dyffryn Clydach and has been responsible for many awards to others - will he now bring new ideas to the County Borough of Neath Port Talbot?   We must wait and see!
