Readers who deserve to be heard

From what we see on our letters page, we have several readers with lots of sense who want to see Neath a better town.   They not only highlight what is wrong with Neath but also what can be done to put things right.

One reader suggests doing what another community does - having a drop in facility, session, meeting, call it what you will - for the town people to meet and put points to their councillors.

We must have more direct contact with our councillors AND more feedback. Let's listen to some of our readers who feel, at the moment, that this website is the only way of expressing themselves.

We feel that some councillors DO care - all they want is the push and demand from the people of Neath.    It CAN be done - we, the people, must make it happen.

A reader writes:
"So why may Councillors think they can relax for the next five years until the next election?    Because those that elected them allow them to.
Remember, they are paid for their services so as rate payers, they are in effect in your employ.
Hound them, get your monies worth out of them.
Although it was election time, I did not receive a visit from a candidate."

We think most councillors will rise to the occasion - let's hope we are right. Let the year 2012 be a new beginning for the town of Neath.
