CIOTEK

'Helping your business grow'  - they say

This Swansea based business consultancy firm has been engaged by NPT CBC for an undisclosed fee as part of the Neath regeneration plan.   One of our readers, who may be very well expressing the views of many others, has questioned if the council is spending money wisely - see Readers Letters page.

At the recent Town Consortium session at the Blue Bell hotel Neath (14th May) Jayne Smith, director of the company, conducted the proceedings at which it was highlighted that lack of communication was a big factor within the town.    Neath has not got its own community radio station and lost its weekly newspaper in 2009 after 84 years of publication.

Jayne Smith has now been sent details of websites that are under development, which relate to Neath in an effort promote the town.   To date, these websites have been produced at no cost whatsoever to the council, the cost being borne by a small group of enthusiasts who are doing their best to bring Neath into the 21st century.   This must be compared with what the council is paying CIOTEK.

Here are brief details of what has been sent to the Swansea consultancy firm:-

www.neathcommunitynews.co.uk   NCN
A hub website for Neath's leisure and hobby groups who have their own website.   A form of directory with the facility for residents to add news items.

www.neathmarket.tk
A very recent website with photos of traders yet to be added.   The website contains the HISTORY OF NEATH - From Castles to Supermarkets.
When completed this website will hopefully attract visitors to the Victorian market.

www.neathhastalent.tk
Following the re-opening of the Gwyn Hall after its refurbishment, this website highlights the professional show business talent in Neath and its surrounding areas.   Links are provided to the various societies and groups in the area involved with stage productions.

www.heritagescene.tk   Neath
Still under development, this website aims to feature the cherished buildings of the town.   Yet to be added are some of the listed buildings of special interest.  Plans for a YOUTUBE video feature is being considered.   The progress of this site will depend on grants and donations from various sources.
As a non-profit making venture, any surplus monies will be donated to a charity.

www.empirecinemaneath.tk
An in depth look at Neath's last popular entertainment centre and its potential for the future - if not demolished as planned.     The matter has been referred to the Welsh Assembly and to Neath's MP.    This website contains some YOUTUBE videos and highlights their use for promotional purposes.

www.neathguardian.co.uk   -  Tribute website
This is one of the most recent websites for the town of Neath.   The Neath Guardian newspaper ceased production in October 2009 after 84 years of providing news for the community.  This website is being developed to fill the news media gap, starting off as a tribute to those who worked on the newspaper.

www.gaynorIT.tk
A design website service with free hosting.   Highlights the websites made to promote business in Neath and its surrounding areas.

We are pleased to report that Jayne Smith has acknowledged our communication and will hopefully highlight the websites at the next session, scheduled for 11th June 2012.

Do you think those involved with the above websites deserve some recognition and perhaps some sort of grant to develop their activities?
