Dyffryn Clydach to have free for all Diamond Jubilee Party

Report updated with readers' comments

The Diamond Jubilee party to be held at Longford Memorial hall will be free of charge to all residents, says our reporter from that area.   In contrast, Blaenhonddan Community Council want to charge £167, says a reader on our letters page.

From reports received it would appear that an applicant for a Jubilee party at a Blaenhonddan community centre has been turned down - and the reason has not been made clear.  Residents are unhappy and want to know why the community council is letting them down.    It is time that residents were given a more clear explanation.

In a more recent letter Sion Griffiths states: "I have been working to remedy this situation. If members of the Jubilee Committee contact the Clerk, I hope we can work together and ensure the event can take place."

The costs mentioned above should, perhaps, be considered in relation to the council's precept.  Blaenhonddan raised their precept (and hall hire charges) by nearly 20% while Dyffryn Clydach froze theirs for the fourth year in succession.

An extract from the latest reader's letter says:  "Blaenhonddan Community Council acts as Scrooge in the time of Dickens, lets hope the spectre of the past will manage to haunt them for what they have done......."

M/s Fran Thomas has written in and highlights the 'missing' documents and mentions the £5million insurance cover required by BCC.   We wonder if there is any commission paid on the insurance premium - and who gets it?

Another reader asks: "Has Dyffryn Clydach CC got a different insurance company?"
