Tesco Stores to provide POST OFFICE facilities

Our mole at Westminster has revealed a plan for TESCO stores to take over many Post Office facilities on a nationwide basis.   The first step in the plan is to raise the postage rates, the first class letter rate will rise from 46p to 60p and second class from 36p to 50p.  The increase takes place on 30th April 2012.

The thought behind the plan is that with so many Tesco stores in the UK it will provide a much needed service - and will compensate for the forecast demise in Post Office counter services resulting from the change in postal rates.

A second phase is planned when Tesco vehicles, already in use for food deliveries, will carry mail between towns.   Privatisation of the Post Office has been on the cards for sometime.

County Borough councillors in Bryncoch South have long been requested to arrange a mail collection box at the local Waunceirch Tesco Express Store.   No mail collection boxes have been installed in the area since housing developments started in 1994.   To date the councillors have had no success.

A Tesco spokesman was not prepared to comment on the plan but said that if anything of this nature did materialise he would not be surprised to see Tesco postage concessions at Christmas time.
