George Galloway shocks Labour
Local issues DO matter - shock for Neath yet to come?
George Galloway of the Respect party has won the by-election at Bradford West and shocks Labour who have held the seat since 1974. We mention this because local issues decided the result, according to a BBC report. This rather dispels the theory of a certain local Labour candidate here in Neath who thinks that national politics decides the way people vote at local elections.
Here in Neath there is the theory that the future of the Empire will decide how residents will vote in the forthcoming May local elections. Much will depend on how clever the opposition parties will be in exploiting the Labour controlled council's decision to demolish Neath's most popular entertainment centre.
Already it is alleged that the demolition has been held back until after the local elections take place.
We can reveal that an entrepreneur had his sights on the Empire building but was pipped to the post by Coastal Housing who had a grant towards the social housing development.
