We check on a reader's statement

We are not always happy with what readers write in their letters, and we certainly don't always agree with what they say - so we checked on the following statement:- - 

What caught our eye was the mention of Rotten Boroughs in the Private Eye Magazine.   We verified that the statement was correct as you will note below.
We apologise for the quality of the reprint.
                        

The moral of this story is that we do sometimes check on what readers write.  Having said this, we cannot verify all statements and you have to accept what is said in good faith.
