History of Neath

History to cherish

A new page has been created in our MENU on the history of Neath.   The dates and facts are currently being checked by our researcher at Neath archives.

The history page should help to make all Neath residents proud of their town.  It should also inspire Neath councillors to go that one mile further to improve facilities in the town - and maybe have second thoughts about the cherished Empire building.

Pictured right is the refurbished gas tram that ran from Briton Ferry to Skewen in the late 1800's.  It can be seen at the Cefn Coed Colliery Museum at Crynant, proudly owned by NPT Council.

A visit to this website will take you to other places of interest in Neath - and will help you to value your town.  And that is why we sincerely want to make Neath even better - and maybe a great tourist attraction, bringing great wealth into the community.

School Teachers please note   We hope that the condensed history of Neath will help in school lessons.  The section on transport, with the pictures of the past, should be of particular interest to children.
