Council to pick Blackberry's for councillors
NPT Council are planning to issue all councillors with Blackberry mobile phones, according to an unofficial source.
This make of mobile phone has been increasingly popular with MP's and other executives beacuse of the instant messaging service, which allows users to communicate as often as they like, and administrators to initiate a 'broadcast' at the touch of a button (or 'ping') to everyone on their contact list.
A big Blackberry advantage is that traditional text messages are free, making instant messaging very cost effective for the council and the users.
It is claimed that over 50 million Blackberry mobile phones have been sold worldwide since they were first produced by the Canadian firm RIM.
