Empire - THE END
Cllr Janice Dudley reports:
Today was a sad day in my opinion. The Planning Committee were discussing a proposal to DEMOLISH the Existing Bingo Hall and Construct Twelve Flats together with Car Parking and Landscaping in its place.
The motion passed 32 for 2 against.
I spoke against the proposal on the following points.
- That the proposal meant that we were diverting from the U D P plan from Business to Residential, thus undermining the provision of service in
the town centre, such as a cultural, cinema ,Disco or youth centre. - Because of its Historic Value, we have demolished all older buildings, there is no longer anything left for Social events until the Gwyn Hall is re opened
Although I agree it has been run down, it is a shame that it had not been marketed further.
The new plans are of a two story type building at the same height asmost of the houses in the street and do fit in with the street scene.
I would like to add that that a request was made to remove the car parked outside.
Ed Note. We wish to thank Cllr. Janice Dudley for reporting to us - Neath's most popular community website. It is only right that the residents of Neath should know what is happening to a building that has provided entertainment for families since 1925. All we can say is that the council are very short sighted and will, in the future, regret their actions.
