Save the Empire

Cllr. Tony Wyn-Jones says his main reason for writing in to our letters page was his concern to save the Neath Empire - the entertainment centre that has served Neath residents since 1926.    The rusting car outside the building (mentioned in our previous report) is just a symbol of the council's attitude to the area.

In the view of many residents, the building would make an ideal community centre, while still providing various forms of entertainment.  It could be an asset to the council, or private owner, and a means of giving much needed employment in Neath.

Cllr. Wyn-Jones is planning a petition to put over this view to the council and all concerned.   He certainly has our support in addition to all those we have spoken to.    We hope to give you more details about the petition in due course.

Let's hope that this campaign is highlighted by the national newspapers and the TV networks - it is certainly a story of exceptional interest - especially with that rusting wreck outside the building!
