Taking it for granted?

Empire Neath Cinema - Bingo Hall
FREEHOLD PURCHASED BEFORE PLANNING APPLICATION IS GRANTED!

We can reveal that it appears that the Swansea Coastal Housing Association bought the freehold of the former Empire Neath Cinema before any planning application was granted for 12 social housing flats.

The question arises: Were any nods and winks given by the powers that be for this development?   Also, are the needs of Neath residents, including our younger generation, being ignored for the sake of 12 social housing flats?

One thing is certain, even if the Empire building is demolished, the Empire Cinema Neath website will remain as a lasting testament on how foolish a council can be about a building that could serve the community.   We only hope we can be proved wrong and that common sense will prevail at some late stage.

Council elections next year may reveal an undercurrent of dissatisfaction on how this matter has been handled.

Have we got a caring Labour controlled council?  The answer depends on what happens to the Empire building - a building that could serve the community.
