Crime figures could be false?

Problem with Police 101 ?
--- resulting in false crime figures?

A recent community discussion group claimed that Police crime figures could be drastically wrong.

This claim is supported by residents failiing to get a response on the non-urgent crime telephone number 101.  Several residents at a PACT meeting said they found the number continually engaged and in the end gave up trying.

The Police have confirmed that crimes reported on 101 are logged for crime statistics.

It has been suggested that the Police have a recording facility so that they call back those unable to get through.

Until this is done the crime figures presented by the Police cannot be regarded as true and correct.

This is what the Police say about this service:-
Service Description: 101 is a 24-hour confidential number which you should use to report problems to the police of a non urgent nature which do not require a 999 call.
You will speak to a highly trained team member who will report the problem and issue you with a case number to enable you to track its progress.
