Police shocked over phone issue

Police shocked over Community Centres having no landine phone.

Police at a recent PACT meeting were shocked to learn that Community Centres in the Blaenhoddan Community have no landline telephones.

The Police became aware of this after being told that an ambulance was sent to the wrong destination after a name mix up - and the call could not be traced.

Having no land-line telephones mean that Internet broadband is not available at the community centres.  Not only that, in the event of a local or national emergency the centres cannot be used as control or command centres by governing authorities.

For the record, Blaenhonddan Community Council decided to have all their landline telephones disconnected in 2009 as a cost cutting measure.  It was thought that mobiles telephones would cover all needs for communication - despite warnings that mobile phones should not be relied on in emergencies.

NOTE  In the event of a fire or any emergency at any Blaenhonddan Community Centre, there would be reliance on someone having a moble phone to report it.  No land-line telephone also means that security alert systems cannot be used to alert the police, emergency services or even the caretaker.
